Charlotte NC. is a city I would highly recommend going to at least once in your life. With it’s colorful charm, lush gardens, greenery, parks, fountains and amazing art sculptures throughout, it is a must see on the bucket list. The city itself is clean and the weather this time of year was perfect with 80 degree temps and zero humidity. Nicknamed the “queen” city (Charlotte Hornets); this city was definitely the queen of cities. Here’s my recommendations based on what we saw and did while visiting.
STAY
We stayed at the Omni Charlotte and it was fabulous! Centrally located and right within downtown,it was walking distance to most everything. Service and staff were wonderful, food was great and the roof deck pool was fabulous.
Restaurants
Cowbell Burger was “rocking!” This rock and roll burger bar was absolutely delicious and so were the drinks. We sat and enjoyed a meal while rock and roll from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s roared but not too loud. I got a quesadilla that was super fresh, melty and delicious. I enjoyed a “berry mule” that was nice and light and not too sweet. Loved it!
Ruby Sunshine was pure sunshine in itself. I tried their fried green tomatoes for the first time in my life and they were amazing! Got the breakfast sandwich on a fresh biscuit and it will melt in your mouth. We also got the “seasonal memos flight” which is a sampler of sparkling wine and some of the freshest seasonal flavors. It was delicious!
Scooters
Although I did not do the scooters on this trip they were all over the place and easily accessible and it you’re looking to save a little money as opposed to an Uber this might be a good route for you to get around the city.
Sight Seeing
The Green Park in uptown Charlotte was the perfect park to stop on our way back to the hotel, after breakfast and cool down and relax. It had large fish fountains that the kids can enjoy to cool off and plenty of grassy spots and flowers to enjoy for a picnic.
The Firebird Statue is a must see created solely from mirrors standing 17 feet tall. It was quite a sight to see. Located in uptown Charlotte.
The Four Corner Statues at Independence Square were amazing! My favorite was the Momma holding her baby up. The center of the city is known as “Uptown” and this is where the city is divided up into four different wards. These statues essentially guard all four. They were impressive and so beautiful!
Entertainment
We saw the “Dude Perfect Show” at the Spectrum Center while visiting. If you’re in town for a show here, this venue was fabulous. Clean, bright, great set up, comfortable seating and not a bad seat in the house.
If you’re looking for a city that’s fun, full of life and entertainment, clean, bright, inviting with lots of charm, a wide variety of restaurants, sightseeing and more, Charlotte is your city!
